2002 Honda NSX-R

Released in Japan in May 2002, the NSX-R was Honda’s circuit-focused evolution of the first-generation NSX. Honda combined precision-balanced 3.2-liter V6 engine components and a six-speed manual gearbox with extensive weight reduction, a retuned suspension and brakes, high-grip tires, and carbon-fiber aerodynamic parts including a pass-through hood and large rear wing. Honda’s Type R timeline records only 140 produced, making this a particularly focused and scarce NSX variant.

Research sources

Horsepower, engine, transmission and Type R production details are corroborated by Honda sources. The exact 0–60 mph figure of 4.7 seconds is from the cited secondary source; Honda’s 2002 NSX-R release does not publish a 0–60 figure. The coupe body style and two-seat configuration reflect the NSX-R’s closed, two-seat NSX architecture; Acura’s 2002 NSX press kit identifies the NSX as a two-seater.
